Cyclone is the gas turbine commercial hydrofoil. She can go on foils at wave height up to 2.5 m. Full-load displacement 150 tons, speed 42 knots, passengers 250, range 300 n.m.
Katran (Kolhida) type ships have been widely used around the world, and in particular, in the Medditeranian Sea. She can go on the foils at waves of up to 2 m. Full-load displacement 74 tons, speed 34 knots, passengers 140/150, range - 200/150 n.m.

Service speed and cruising range
Foilborne service speed of 45 kn (85 km/hr) is provided on the calm water, main engines RPM 1580 at 100% nominal/operating output power in the following cases of loading:
- 86 passengers, 50% food stores and fresh water (250 kg) and full load of diesel oil (1620 kg) for 162 miles
- 80 passengers, 50% food stores and fresh water (250 kg) and full load of diesel oil (2150 kg) for 216 miles
- 75 passengers, 50% food stores and fresh water (250 kg) and full load of diesel oil (2720 kg) for 270 miles
HULL
The hull shape is sharp bilge with V-type bottom. Hull and wheelhouse material is corrosion-resisting aluminium-magnesium alloy 1561. The hull is made of moulded panels, boards, awning deck and wheelhouse are made of plates and moulded profiles. Hull structures are joined by the argon-arc welding and spot contact welding with glue.
FOIL SYSTEM
Foil system consists of two foils: bow foil and after foil. Foil material - stainless steel. Bonding technique is welding.
SHIP ARRANGEMENTS
The hydrofoil is equipped with the following arrangements: steering gear, anchor gear, mooring and towing gear, life rails and lines, masting, as well as collective and personal life-saving appliances in compliance with the requirements of the Russian River Register of Shipping.
HULL SYSTEMS
The following systems are onboard: drainage and oily bilge waters system, CO2 fire-extinguishing system, domestic outside water system, domestic waters system, waste waters system, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, engine-room ventilation system, hydraulics system, galvanic protection system of the bottom.
MAIN AND AUX ENGINES
Two twelve-cylinder diesel engines M470 with V-type cylinder arrangement, continuous output of 990 kW each, «ZVEZDA» made, Russia, are used as the main engines. Diesel-generator of the company “Panda” (Germany) with 24kW capacity (380 V AC 50 Hz) is used as an auxiliary power plant.
POWER PLANT SYSTEMS
Shipborne power plant systems include: fuel system, oil system, water cooling system, system of air supply to the engine room, main engines and diesel-generator gas vent system, main and auxiliary engines control system. Automation is provided for control system, monitoring system, alarm warning signaling and protection of main engines and auxiliary engine, technical aids.
SHAFTING AND PROPELLERS
The vessel has two drive shaftings installed at an angle to the base plane. Each of them is joined hard to the reduction gear flange of the main engine. The vessel is equipped with two five-bladed propeller.
ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
Electrical energy distribution is provided on the ship, three-phase alternate current of 380V, single-phase alternate current of 220V, direct current of 24-27V. Four DC generators with main engines’s drive, diesel-generator, accumulator batteries and shore power supplies are used as electric power supplies. Radio navigation equipment meets the Register rules and international requirements, which provides safe operation of the ship.
LIFTING ARRANGEMENTS
For the purpose of transportation, maintenance and shore storage the hydrofoil is fitted with 4 lifting buttons and supplied with lifting gear and cradle.
During 2004 two hydrofoils of Lastochka-M type were built here and delivered to China.
