Italy, Trieste–Opicina tram-funicular in 2025
This is the first hybrid tram-funicular. For most of the journey, the line runs like a conventional electric tram, combining street and reserved tracks. On the steepest section of the line, between Piazza Scorcola and Piazza Vetta Scorcola, the tram is pushed uphill and stopped at the top by two cable cars, similar to the principle of a funicular. After an accident in 2016, the trams only started running again in February 2025
